Okay, I'm sorry that I have not been blogging for like 123534534982734 years. I was really really busy with work (I'm holding 2 part-time jobs now mind you).
But I have to do this before it goes overdue.
I was having lunch with Glenn 2 Fridays ago (Yes, it was that long) over at this small cafe/bistro by the name of Sweet Indulgence.
It was really one of those hot afternoon and I just finished shopping for my knitting supplies from Chinatown. The restaurant being at Stanley Road, which is near Amoy Street Hawker Center, I decided to walk there. Bad idea. I was literally sweating by the time I reach that place. I was in office attire as well and my pants were horribly baggy.
Enough ranting, lets move on.

This cafe is situated in the quaint shop houses in the CBD area. This place would definitely be packed during lunch hours. Glenn decided to eat at this place because he is working nearby in a PR firm and he thought that this would be a nice restaurant to eat at.

The services were okay, even though we waited quite a while for our food to be served. There are the basics of serving ice water, greeting and informing the customers what soup are they serving for the day. And for that day, they were serving Cream of Mushroom.

Yum Factor:
Somehow this soup tasted a bit like gratified Campbell soup. There is this distinctive taste alike to the ones in Campbell soup. Just that this one does have puree bits of mushrooms inside. This soup is not thick enough as well, probably a sign of more water less cream. The best Cream of Mushroom I had is really thick with A LOT of mushrooms in it. Somehow, the ones from Sweet Indulgence is a bit too thin for my liking.
For main course, I've ordered the Carbonara
Yum Factor:
When it was first served, it looks really good. On first taste, the first thing that came to my mind was Onions. There was this strong taste of onions in this pasta. The spaghetti was just right though. The mushrooms had a small tinge of bitter after taste to it. And the whole dish was abit tasteless and the onion was overpowering. I had to dump a lot of Tabasco sauce on it to make that onion taste weaker.
Glenn had the Seared Salmon with Vanilla Sauce and Seasoned Greens.
Yum Factor:
According to Glenn, he commented that the Vanilla Sauce (which is that white mash potatoe liked stuff under the Salmon) tasted abit 'fake'. As in, the Vanilla used inside is some cheapo Vanilla essence off the shelves of the grocery. But other than that, the Salmon was fresh and was just nicely done. Not much to comment about the vegetable since they are either boiled or raw salad.
For dessert, we had the Home-made Vanilla Ice Cream.

Yum Factor:
I am very bias and very extreme when it comes to ice cream served by restaurants. For it to be a good ice cream, it has to be soft but not melted. Sweet but not sickening. And all natural. This ice cream, passed all these. You can really tell if the ice cream is the real thing or just some Marigold Ice Cream from the supplier just by looking at the ice cream itself. For this, you can really see the specks of vanilla from the vanilla pods. There is this soft, delicate vanilla taste that is very subtle. Both of us agreed that this dessert was really the highlight of the whole lunch.
Overall Score:
I would say that this cafe is slightly above average. The bill totaled to about $56, so after doingthe math, it was about $28 per pax. We added the set lunch promotion to our main course for an addition $7.80. For set lunches, you get a soup of the day, coffee/tea and the dessert of the day. I find the pricing kinda reasonable for such a restaurant. This place is not really big, and at full capacity, it can sit about 40 customers maximum.
Operating Hours:
Mon-Fri: 10am - 10pm
Closed Sat, Sun, PH
The restuarant is situated at Stanley road, in between Telok Ayer Street and Cecil Street. There should be a 7-11 nearby so, it shouldn't be hard to missed. Its along a stretch of other bistro cafes as well. Its about 3 to 5 mins walk from Amoy Street Food Center.
